THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH:
Two events this weekend remind us of the worldwide mission of the Church. Saint Matthew ends his Gospel with Jesus commissioning the eleven: “Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.”

ANNUAL MISSION APPEAL:
Firstly, we welcome Fr Emmanuel OSA, who will appeal at all the Masses on behalf of the Augustinians, who, like the Redemptorists, have missionaries in many parts of the world. I know that you will make him welcome and do what you can to respond. We all know that Pope Leo XIV is an Augustinian Friar, who at one time was the General of the Order and travelled the world visiting and encouraging the various communities in their vocation.

PARISH GARDEN PARTY:
Even though it is still pouring with rain as I write my message on Friday morning, the weather forecast for Sunday promises something much brighter, so let’s hope that the decision to move from the autumn will be rewarded. As you know this is one of the many events we hold each year to support the missionary work of the Redemptorists in Zimbabwe, the region still attached to London Province. Many people commented on how eloquently Frances Sibert spoke at the end of the Masses last Sunday, so you don’t need me to remind you of how grateful we are for your support of our confrères in that part of Africa.
I am sure you will also be pleased to know that Fr Joseph Musendami, who is continuing to work on his doctoral thesis in Rome, has offered to spend another six weeks with us from the middle of July.

CELEBRATING THEIR FIRST COMMUNION:
At the 10am Mass this Sunday we welcome back the children who made their First Communion last month so that they can celebrate with the community of the parish. It provides me with another opportunity to congratulate them and their families and thank our wonderful team of catechists and our schools for having accompanied them on their journey.

LAY BOARD MEMBERS WANTED FOR APCMC.
For the first time, APCMC (Archdiocesan Parish Centre Management Company)
is seeking to appoint two new lay board members to bring professional expertise and fresh perspectives to the management of our parish centres. APCMC will host two events at our parish centres to give potential candidates an insight into our work. 800TH YEAR OF THE DEATH OF ST FRANCIS

To commemorate the 800th Year of the death of St Francis, on Thursday 25 June, Fr Gerard Mary is giving a talk to the Justice and Peace Youth Group about St Francis and the Franciscan way. The J&P Youth Group would like to invite any young people from our parish to come along to share in the event. We will meet at St Anthony of Padua at 6.15pm and the event will end at 8.00pm. There will be refreshments. We are a very friendly bunch and looking forward to making new friends! Young people can bring an adult with them.

DIOCESAN LOURDES PILGRIMAGE.
From next weekend there will be a petition box on Our Lady’s altar for parishioners to leave a written intention which will then be gathered together and taken to the Annual Diocesan Lourdes Mass on Sunday 19 July, 3.00pm, at the Metropolitan Cathedral. They will then be taken to Lourdes by the Diocesan Pilgrimage Family on 23 July and will be remembered at each Mass and finally placed in the Grotto on the last day of the pilgrimage, when we will also light Diocesan Candle to continue that prayer as we journey homeward. Please contact the parish office if you are able to take our petitions to the Mass on 19 July.
