After many happy years of bringing people together each month, our Parish Quiz has reached the end of its journey. Sadly, due to a lack of volunteers able to organise and run the event, we are no longer able to continue.

Thank you to everyone who supported the quiz over the years and helped make it such an enjoyable part of parish life.

CONTACT YOUR MP TO OPPOSE ASSISTED SUICIDE

The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill is back in the House of Commons and seeks to legalise assisted dying. It will have its Second Reading and vote on Friday, 11 September 2026. Please write to your MP to make your voice heard and oppose the Bill.

Please speak up and voice your opposition. The charity Right to Life UK has a simple online mechanism to do this. It takes little more than a few minutes to enter your postcode, make sure the suggested text suits your viewpoint and submit your message to ask your MP to stop this flawed Bill progressing through parliament.

For more information and resources, visit: cbcew.org.uk/opposing-assisted-suicide righttolife.org.uk/Sept11vote

You can read Archbishop John's statement on the reintroduction of this bill here: Statement on the re-introduction of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill - Catholic Bishops' Conference

Details of how to make the payment will be sent to you, or you can pop the cash in an envelope with your message enclosed and post to Cathedral House.

A STATEMENT FROM THE PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT OF THE CATHOLIC BISHOPS’ CONFERENCE OF ENGLAND AND WALES

“Yesterday’s (Wednesday 24 June) news of the charges brought against Bishop David Oakley (Bishop of Northampton) is deeply distressing for all, both within the Catholic community and beyond.

“We are profoundly aware that the report of this allegation may reawaken painful memories for many people and again offer an unreserved apology to those who have been hurt by abuse in the Catholic Church in England and Wales.

“In this moment we would like to provide pastoral reassurance on the commitment of the Church to safeguarding.

“The Catholic Church in England and Wales maintains a zero-tolerance policy for abuse in the Church and in wider society, and we are cooperating fully with the statutory authorities.

“Our immediate focus is on providing pastoral support and ensuring that we, as the Church, can continue our mission safely and transparently.

“Anybody who comes to our parishes, schools and communities must be safe and we are resolute in our commitment to safeguarding.

“We reiterate the open invitation from the bishops to meet with and listen to victims and survivors, so that we can learn from and be guided by their experiences as we continue to make our communities safe places.

“We are committed to continual review and development, assisted by the independent auditing work of the Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency, so that all our communities are places of safety and sanctuary for all.”

 CAFOD G20 CAMPAIGN:

Last year many parishioners here and in parishes across England and Wales, signed a petition calling for world leaders to help low income countries suffering greatly because of interest paid on debt. This year we are asking the UK government, as part of their presidency of the G20 in 2027, to find and promote ways of reducing the cost for poorer countries. On average 18% of their national income is going to service the large unfair interest rates charged by lenders, meaning less money for health care, schools, clean water etc. We need a reformed system for borrowing and lending that protects poorer countries from amassing huge debts.

Please read the letter from Cardinal Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla from South Sudan on the notice board.

A petition will be available at the back of the church before and after masses on 12 July.

Please consider signing the petition with name address and postcode.
