NEXT WEEKEND: A TIME TO CELEBRATE:
You may have noticed a banner in the Lady Chapel reminding us that the Redemptorists came to Liverpool 175 years ago. The other day I felt prompted to check any significant dates in relation to their arrival. As with the Notre Dame Sisters our coming was on the recommendation of the famous Fr James Nugent. Accordingly Bishop George Brown, the first Catholic Bishop of Liverpool, invited the first Redemptorists to take possession of his own home and he moved to Catherine Street. The first three missioners came on June 10th but did not open the chapel to the public until the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, which happened to fall on a Sunday that year. Next Sunday will be the Feast of Peter and Paul, transferred from the Monday this year. And for good measure next Saturday is the Feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and remember the first copy of the icon to leave Rome after the original was entrusted to the Redemptorists in 1866 came to Bishop Eton in thanksgiving for the cure of Fr Francis Hall, a young member of the community at that time. So, let’s celebrate:
SATURDAY: THE NOON MASS TO CELEBRATE THE FEAST OF OUR LADY.
Once again we will transfer that treasured copy from our private oratory to the church for your veneration.
SUNDAY: AFTER THE 10AM MASS THERE WILL BE A PARTY IN THE FISHER-MORE HALL.
It will not be extravagant, but more than an ordinary Coffee Morning and hopefully many of the children and their families will come and with us thank God for the last 175 years.
MONDAY (THE ACTUAL DATE): NOON MASS OF THANKSGIVING
Led by Fr Andrew Burns, our Rector. I have alerted Bishop Eton and Carleton House Schools that we have this special weekend approaching and hopefully some of the children will be able to provide us with some of their own artwork to commemorate the occasion.
✟✟✟✟✟✟✟✟✟✟
BISHOP RALPH HESKETT’S GOLDEN JUBILEE:
Bishop Ralph will be celebrating 50 years of priestly service on Friday 10 July, with Mass in Sheffield Cathedral at 11.00am. We sense that a number of people might like to join him for the occasion and it may be worth seeing whether it would be helpful to hire a coach for the occasion?
If you think this is a good idea, could you please respond immediately and contact the office before 4.00pm tomorrow, Monday 22 June.
✟✟✟✟✟✟✟✟✟✟
ROSEMARY POOLE
The Funeral of Rosemary Poole will take place on Monday 22 June at 12 noon.
DAY FOR LIFE:
A retiring collection will be taken after Masses this weekend in aid of Day for Life.
PETER’S PENCE:
A retiring collection will be taken after Masses next weekend in aid of Peter’s Pence.
AUGUSTINIAN MISSION APPEAL:
Thank you for the generous donations to Fr Emmanuel last week. We raised £1037.32 and are still waiting on the figure for the donations made directly to Fr Emmanuel using his card machine. We will share the grand total once we have the final figure.
LOST PROPERTY
PLEASE COLLECT LOST PROPERTY FROM THE SACRISTY BY THE END OF JUNE.
PILGRIMS OF HOPE:
URGENT CALL FOR HELP FROM THE LAST CHRISTIANS OF THE HOLY LAND.
As some may be aware, the situation for Christians in the Holy Land has deteriorated badly. Bishop James Curry of the CBCEW has urged Catholics to take "concrete action" to support them. To view the message created in consultation with a group of twelve Palestinian Christians living in the West Bank and for more details on how to get involved visithttps://www.pilgrimsofhope.co.uk/so/d7PwSE4sY
PARISH GARDEN PARTY & PROJECT ZIMBABWE UPDATE:
Once again an enormous thank you to everyone who supported the garden party and donated to the tombola. We raised £1175.80 on the day and also received some extremely generous donations amounting to £2800! This will make a huge difference in Zimbabwe, especially since US Aid has been completely cut.
BIG, BIG THANK YOU!

LIVESIMPLY TOGETHER
We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with others
This week marks 75 years since the Refugee Convention – a landmark agreement affirming that those forced to flee deserve protection, dignity, and hope, providing a legal foundation that has saved millions of lives. This year’s Refugee Week theme is `Courage’. Often courage to face unknown journeys, learn new languages, navigate unfamiliar systems, or simply to wake up each morning and step into an uncertain world.
We are called to have the courage to welcome our sisters and brothers in distress, opening our doors to a neighbour, trying new food, changing our view of the world. Speaking out against hate. Living our faith.
