This section of the website reflects Bishop Eton's Live Simply journey  For St Mary's journey visit https://www.stmaryswoolton.org.uk/en/living-simply

In March 2024 both parishes were awarded the Live Simply Award.
In September 2025 the parishes of Our Lady of the Annunciation Bishop Eton, St Mary's Woolton and St John Vianney joined forces to form LiveSimplyTogether

Purpose:

We care about Creation and we care about people who are living in poverty.

We celebrate the wonders of the natural world and the diversity of our brothers and sisters, both here and right across the planet.

We are really worried about the impact that the climate crisis and other environmental threats are having on our world, particularly the impact on the poor.

We are committed to promote a variety of actions and initiatives across our two Parishes, which will help us to live out our faith by caring for our common home.

Aim

We aim to be a catalyst for change, inspiring the parishioners of Bishop Eton and St Mary's to live more simply, more sustainably and in greater solidarity with the poor.

Patron

Prior to his death in April 20206 Fr Jim Casey C.Ss.R was our patron, there are no plans to replace him.

 LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 15.12.24

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.

This week we pray for our brothers and sisters throughout the world, forced to leave their homes and travel to a new country, in the hope of a life where they and their children will be safe. The United Nations urges our support in celebration and prayer on International Migrants Day on Wednesday 18 December.

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 8.12.24

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.

As we travel through Advent, we continue to remember those in need at this cold but festive time, our parishes continue to support those in food poverty, through the South Liverpool Foodbank and the Sisters of Charity, Seel Street.  What can you do to help?

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 1.12.24

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.

As COP29 ends we pray that world leaders have listened to those most affected by climate change and will act urgently and wisely. At home we can continue to share our ideas for a sustainable Christmas. With school Christmas fayres coming up it is a good time to donate preloved toys and to pick up nearly new uniform and gifts made locally.

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with others.

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 3.11.24

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with others.

As we start our preparations for Christmas can we challenge ourselves this year to look for sustainable presents?

It’s so easy to get carried away bringing more colourful plastic into our homes. St Mary's nearly new fashion show this weekend could be a perfect opportunity to pick up a recycled gift.

CAFOD have lots of sustainable gifts that also help support our brothers and sisters all over the world worldgifts.cafod.org.uk

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 27.10.24

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.

Here in Liverpool, we are very lucky to have a number of free, nationally important museums and art galleries, including The World Museum, The International Slavery Museum and The Walker Art Gallery.  As we continue Black History Month why not have a fun day out, maybe with a group of family or friends, visiting one or more of the museums to learn about Black history and culture? It could be an ideal half term activity. Alternatively, why not find something relevant to read, watch, listen to or explore online https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/collections/sankofa/culture.

Perhaps through this we can also recognise some of our own, possibly previously unacknowledged, prejudices

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 20.10.24

October is Black History Month, a time each year when we are invited to learn more about and celebrate ‘the full complexity of Black heritage’.

The resource pack  (blackhistorymonth.org.uk/black-history-month-resource-pack-2024/) highlights the huge achievements of black literary figures, scientists and innovators, activists and heroes and the important contributions they have made to society.

Perhaps we should also use this as an opportunity to learn more about our Catholic Black heritage.

Did you know that all of the following canonised saints, together with hundreds of others, came from Africa and have had a profound effect on the Church? St Augustine of Hippo, St Monica, St Josephine Bakhita, St Martin de Porres, St Peter Claver, SS Perpetua & Felicity, St Charles Lwanga, St Antony of the Desert, may they all pray for us.

LiveSimply Message 15.10.24

World Food Day falls this week on Wednesday. While not forgetting all those suffering starvation and malnutrition in other parts of the world, let us also remember the people who live very close to us and are also struggling to feed their families. Please continue to support the work of food banks when you shop and by bringing items to church.

Another easy way to support food banks is online via Bankuet (https://www.bankuet.co.uk/). Your donation goes as far as possible for maximum impact through the power of bulk buying; for every £1 you give, they deliver more than £1 of food! It’s also exactly what the food bank has requested and needs most. Jesus himself taught us to pray, ‘Give us today our daily bread.’ We are privileged to be able to share what we have been given.

LIVESIMPLY PLAQUE

Our LiveSimply plaque is now up at the back of Church.

The plaque acknowledges that Bishop Eton has achieved the LiveSimply Award from CAFOD, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to live simply, live sustainably with creation and live in solidarity with the poor.
