This section of the website reflects Bishop Eton's Live Simply journey For St Mary's journey visit https://www.stmaryswoolton.org.uk/en/living-simply
In March 2024 both parishes were awarded the Live Simply Award.
In September 2025 the parishes of Our Lady of the Annunciation Bishop Eton, St Mary's Woolton and St John Vianney joined forces to form LiveSimplyTogether
Purpose:
We care about Creation and we care about people who are living in poverty.
We celebrate the wonders of the natural world and the diversity of our brothers and sisters, both here and right across the planet.
We are really worried about the impact that the climate crisis and other environmental threats are having on our world, particularly the impact on the poor.
We are committed to promote a variety of actions and initiatives across our two Parishes, which will help us to live out our faith by caring for our common home.
Aim
We aim to be a catalyst for change, inspiring the parishioners of Bishop Eton and St Mary's to live more simply, more sustainably and in greater solidarity with the poor.
Patron
Prior to his death in April 20206 Fr Jim Casey C.Ss.R was our patron, there are no plans to replace him.

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 1.2.25
We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.
We all know that the world needs more love, and that is exactly what International Day of Human Fraternity, held annually on 4 February, aims to generate. Love for people everywhere, across every religion, caste, and race. Also, we are reminded that, Pope Francis has designated the 8 February, the feast of St Josephine Bakhita, as the International Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking. LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 26.1.25
We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.
Is LiveSimply part of the Jubilee Year in 2025? The theme of the Jubilee Year is Pilgrims in Hope. Pope Francis has invited all Catholics across the world to renew our hope and discover a vision that can “restore access to the fruits of the earth to everyone”. We are also invited to rediscover a spirituality of God’s creation in which we understand ourselves as “pilgrims on the earth” rather than masters of the world.
Is LiveSimply part of the Jubilee Year in 2025? You betcha!
LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 19.1.2025
We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.
As we embark on our Jubilee year, urgent action is needed to tackle a global debt crisis. More than 3.3 billion people now live in countries that spend more on debt interest than on health and education. In many developing nations, nearly half of the national budget is being consumed in servicing international debts. Jubilee or Holy Year is a year of forgiveness and reconciliation. It includes debt cancellation and land restored to the landless. A new petition is now live.

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 12.1.2025
We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.
Amidst all the gloom, there’s always hope. In 2024 …
- A new type of ‘environmentally friendly’ plastic was patented which will dissolve in seawater within 10 hours.
- After nearly 150 years, the UK closed its final coal power station, and is on course to fully de-carbonise our electricity supply by 2030.
- A first routine ‘child immunization programme against malaria’ began in Cameroon, pending a wider roll out; this preventable disease currently kills over 500,000 children in Africa every year.
Where people of goodwill work together, just solutions can be found even for those problems which seem most intractable!
LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 5.1.2025
We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.
We challenge every parishioner to set at least one LiveSimply New Year’s resolution, either to live simply or sustainably with Creation or in solidarity with those living in poverty. Even if it’s an easy one … Perhaps you could resolve to … take time to appreciate our local green space, or make one less car journey each week, or eliminate all single use plastic bottles, or follow CAFOD / WaterAid / Mary’s Meals on social media, actively support our local foodbank, or regularly buy a Fairtrade product.
LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 29.12.24
We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.
We begin the Jubilee Year as Pilgrims of Hope. We are called to universal fraternity, refusing to turn a blind eye to the rampant poverty that prevents millions of people from living in a manner worthy of our human dignity. May we be voices for the poor, restoring access to the fruits of our Common Home for all; as Pilgrims finding ways of living a simpler life.
LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 22.12.24
We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.
We await the birth of our Saviour, born in a stable, as the child of refugees driven from their own country. Let our preparations and celebrations of this miraculous event be simple, prayerful and understanding of those in need.
LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 15.12.24
We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.
This week we pray for our brothers and sisters throughout the world, forced to leave their homes and travel to a new country, in the hope of a life where they and their children will be safe. The United Nations urges our support in celebration and prayer on International Migrants Day on Wednesday 18 December.
LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 8.12.24
We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.
As we travel through Advent, we continue to remember those in need at this cold but festive time, our parishes continue to support those in food poverty, through the South Liverpool Foodbank and the Sisters of Charity, Seel Street. What can you do to help?
LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 1.12.24
We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.
As COP29 ends we pray that world leaders have listened to those most affected by climate change and will act urgently and wisely. At home we can continue to share our ideas for a sustainable Christmas. With school Christmas fayres coming up it is a good time to donate preloved toys and to pick up nearly new uniform and gifts made locally.
