This section of the website reflects Bishop Eton's Live Simply journey  For St Mary's journey visit https://www.stmaryswoolton.org.uk/en/living-simply

In March 2024 both parishes were awarded the Live Simply Award.
In September 2025 the parishes of Our Lady of the Annunciation Bishop Eton, St Mary's Woolton and St John Vianney joined forces to form LiveSimplyTogether

Purpose:

We care about Creation and we care about people who are living in poverty.

We celebrate the wonders of the natural world and the diversity of our brothers and sisters, both here and right across the planet.

We are really worried about the impact that the climate crisis and other environmental threats are having on our world, particularly the impact on the poor.

We are committed to promote a variety of actions and initiatives across our two Parishes, which will help us to live out our faith by caring for our common home.

Aim

We aim to be a catalyst for change, inspiring the parishioners of Bishop Eton and St Mary's to live more simply, more sustainably and in greater solidarity with the poor.

Patron

Prior to his death in April 20206 Fr Jim Casey C.Ss.R was our patron, there are no plans to replace him.

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 3.3.24

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.

As we enter March we will start to see more signs of Spring as our gardens and parks start to burst forth with new life. Sunday 3 March is World Wildlife Day and we give thanks to God for the great gifts of our fauna and flora. One of the major threats to our natural world is the increase in plastic pollution. Nearly 100 billion pieces of plastic packaging are thrown away by UK households every year and just 12% is recycled. One way to help and influence the debate on plastic use and recycling is to take part in the Big Plastic Count (11-17 March). There will be tally sheets at the back of Church on 9/10 March with instructions on how to take part or more information can be found at thebigplasticcount.com.

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 25.2.24

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.

Following a formal assessment by CAFOD representatives last week, Bishop Eton and St Mary’s have each achieved the status of LiveSimply Parish. This is only the 4th time that parishes in the Liverpool Archdiocese have achieved this Award, so we are going to plan a suitable celebration to mark our new status. Thereafter, we want to find more ways to live simply, live sustainably with creation and live in solidarity with the poor. If you would like to be part of the team, please get in touch: .

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 7.1.2024

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.

As we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany perhaps the familiar words of the carol will sing in a fresh way for
us today - and throughout the New Year?

What can I give him poor as I am? If I were a shepherd I would bring a lamb. If I were a wise man I would do my part. Yet what I can, I give him—Give my heart..’

What gifts do I have to share with my brothers and sisters in need this year? What is my special gift? Is it patience… humour….kind words? Maybe a listening ear or time spent volunteering with a charity?………?????

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 31.12.23

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.

‘The first Christmas was pretty simple. It’s okay if yours is too…’ As the year ends and we recall the flight of the Holy Family into Egypt, we pray for all who flee from danger. Enfold them in your care and challenge us to offer our protection. Wake up, little baby God and hear our cry that justice may be born. Amen. Today can we reach out to those families who have been forced to leave their homes?

God of joy, remind me to rejoice wrapped up. In my Christmas gifts tied down in my debts I have forgotten.

God of all, remind me of the true light of Christmas,of your gift shared. In my own wants and in my own needs I have forgotten wrapped up in my little world remind me of your world.

God of joy, remind me to rejoice. Amen.

How is Advent going for you?

Here are some ideas for living simply, sustainably and in solidarity to prepare for Christmas. It’s not too late!

  • Find some quiet time in the midst of all the bustle.
  • Send a charity gift
  • Continue to support food banks and other charitable collections
  • Use an Advent calendar e.g. from CAFOD or from ‘Advent Extra’.
  •  Attend a carol service or join in community Christmas events.
  •  Eat more simply – try ‘meat as a treat’
  •  Make a conscious effort to waste less
  •  Prepare and use a family Christmas grace
