This section of the website reflects Bishop Eton's Live Simply journey  For St Mary's journey visit https://www.stmaryswoolton.org.uk/en/living-simply

In March 2024 both parishes were awarded the Live Simply Award.
In September 2025 the parishes of Our Lady of the Annunciation Bishop Eton, St Mary's Woolton and St John Vianney joined forces to form LiveSimplyTogether

Purpose:

We care about Creation and we care about people who are living in poverty.

We celebrate the wonders of the natural world and the diversity of our brothers and sisters, both here and right across the planet.

We are really worried about the impact that the climate crisis and other environmental threats are having on our world, particularly the impact on the poor.

We are committed to promote a variety of actions and initiatives across our two Parishes, which will help us to live out our faith by caring for our common home.

Aim

We aim to be a catalyst for change, inspiring the parishioners of Bishop Eton and St Mary's to live more simply, more sustainably and in greater solidarity with the poor.

Patron

Prior to his death in April 20206 Fr Jim Casey C.Ss.R was our patron, there are no plans to replace him.

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE:

As we celebrate the feast of the Risen Christ perhaps you could spend sometime in God’s creation, challenging yourself to get up early and watch the sunrise and to simply pray this prayer as the world starts to wake.

God of life, Creator of the earth and all that it contains, you rested and beheld all that you had made and you saw that it was good. Encourage us to lift our heads from the daily grind and know that we are always in your sight. Empower us to break the chains that bind us in unfulfilling work, and to bring hope to those that toil unseen. Open our eyes to see what is truly important And lead us to seek the real wealth that comes from you, only making itself felt in dignity and justice for all. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Live Simply LogoLIVESIMPLY MESSAGE:

We care about creation and we care about people living in poverty. As we enter into Holy Week, may we respond to the call to live simple lives.

Fast from pressures and be prayerful.
Fast from bitterness and fill your hearts with joy.
Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others.
Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
Fast from words and be silent so we can listen.

LIVESIMPLY SPRING CREATION WALK:

Start at St Mary’s Parish, at 11 o’clock, Saturday, 1 April. We will gather in the garden and then walk over to Bishop Eton, where we will then have refreshments in the Fisher-More Hall. This reflective walk will be an excellent preparation for us approaching Holy Week.

SPRING CLEAN:

It’s time to Spring Clean!!! Dig out all your un-needed, unused, unloved items. Give them away to those who need them. Let’s fill our local charity shops with simply wonderful things. Shout if you need a hand with transport: .

LiveSimply in Bishop Eton and St Mary’s:  We care about creation and we care about people living in poverty.

World Water Day on 22 March  celebrates water which plays a big part in the Christian church.

At this time we also raise awareness of the 2bn people living without access to safe water. We can help by conserving water ourselves, being better informed about  the challenges being faced and writing to our MP about budgets for improving water at home and abroad. Shop  sustainably: a typical pair of jeans takes 10,000 litres of water to produce – equal to what a person would drink in 10 years!

FAIRTRADE COFFEE MORNING AT BISHOP ETON

As part of our LiveSimply programme we have recently been raising awareness of Fairtrade and Fairtrade Fortnight, including Fairtrade-themed coffee mornings at both Parishes on the two Sundays within Fairtrade Fortnight.
We created a handout entitled Fairtrade, some facts which we shared with parishioners at all Masses on the relevant Sunday. For the 10:00 Mass on Sunday 5 March at Bishop Eton, we attached a tombola ticket.

Live Simply LogoLIVESIMPLY MESSAGE:

We care about creation and we care about people living in poverty. 13 March marks the 10th anniversary of Pope Francis’s election.

He leads us all in living simply, in solidarity with the poor and sustainably with creation. Let us thank God for all his inspiration. Fairtrade

Fortnight ends today. Across our Parishes we raised awareness of Fairtrade at the various events we held. Every time we buy Fairtrade products we are, like Pope Francis, supporting the poor and helping to. protect our common home

WOMENS' GROUP LIVESIMPLY PRESENTATION

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

This Sunday, to tie in with Fairtrade Fortnight, we are promoting Fairtrade. Look out for the some facts handout and listen out for the bidding prayer. After the 10.00am Mass, the coffee morning in Fisher-More Hall will have a Fairtrade theme.

By choosing Fairtrade products when shopping we stand with farmers in low-income countries who are striving to build a greener and more sustainable future for themselves and for their communities.

Live Simply LogoLIVESIMPLY MESSAGE:

Live Simply…this week. Fairtrade Fortnight begins on Monday. At Bishop Eton we will celebrate Fairtrade next Sunday, 5 March at all Masses, and with a coffee morning after the 10.00am Mass. Please add at least one Fairtrade item to your shopping to show our solidarity with the poor and to live more sustainably.

Live Simply LogoLIVESIMPLY MESSAGE:

Live Simply…… this week. We begin our Lenten journey on Wednesday 22 February, what simple changes could we make to our complicated lives?

Perhaps, we could spend more time in prayer - eat simply - go without something - share more with the poor – remember what is truly important?
