This section of the website reflects Bishop Eton's Live Simply journey For St Mary's journey visit https://www.stmaryswoolton.org.uk/en/living-simply
In March 2024 both parishes were awarded the Live Simply Award.
In September 2025 the parishes of Our Lady of the Annunciation Bishop Eton, St Mary's Woolton and St John Vianney joined forces to form LiveSimplyTogether
Purpose:
We care about Creation and we care about people who are living in poverty.
We celebrate the wonders of the natural world and the diversity of our brothers and sisters, both here and right across the planet.
We are really worried about the impact that the climate crisis and other environmental threats are having on our world, particularly the impact on the poor.
We are committed to promote a variety of actions and initiatives across our two Parishes, which will help us to live out our faith by caring for our common home.
Aim
We aim to be a catalyst for change, inspiring the parishioners of Bishop Eton and St Mary's to live more simply, more sustainably and in greater solidarity with the poor.
Patron
Prior to his death in April 20206 Fr Jim Casey C.Ss.R was our patron, there are no plans to replace him.

October is Mental Health Awareness Month. Throughout history, being outside in nature has been a sacred activity, a way of encountering God, and in turn, our true selves. R. S. Thomas describes encountering God out walking on the Moor. Being out there, for him, felt like entering a church, a holy space, where, “what God was there made himself felt, Not listened to, in clean colours that brought a moistening of the eye, in movement of the wind over grass”. As the days shorten let us spend some time simply being in God’s creation.

Over the last year we hope the Live Simply messages have prompted you to think about how to live more simply to help the climate.
Let’s think about food waste. Ideally just buy what you need. But how many of us attempt to compost left over food?
Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority have launched a questionnaire to get a basic gauge of current behaviour and options re food waste. Complete the 10minute questionnaire and you might win a £100 supermarket voucher! https://www.zerowastelcr.com/news-views

10 October is WORLD PORRIDGE DAY! Mary’s meals set up this special day to raise funds for their amazing work; they feed 2 ½ million hungry children in 18 different countries. Just £19.15 ensures that one child receives a nutritious porridge type meal every day in their place of Education for a whole year.
For more information and to donate visit www.marysmeals.org.uk.
Try to mark this day by sharing a basic family meal and saying a special grace: Bread of heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Feed those who are hungry. O God you entrusted to us the fruits of all creation so that we might care for the earth and be nourished with its bounty. Amen.

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 1ST OCTOBER 2023
The Season of Creation 1 Sept – 4 October 2023
During the coming month of October, our focus will be on consideration of World hunger. This is the month where we celebrate the wonders of a good harvest; appreciating the hard work that goes into producing the food we all enjoy. However, we are also very aware that often it is in those parts of the world that provide us with good food, that there is greatest hunger. Let us all consider how we can respond this year to the CAFOD Family Fast Day, where we are invited to spend some time Fasting, Praying and Giving a donation.
A WALK IN THE WOODS 23RD SEPTEMBER 2023
On Saturday 23rd Sepember, members of the Live Simply team were joined by their fellow parishioners from Bishop Eton and St Mary's for a guided walk through Childwall Woods.

At the start of the walk we remembered Susan a member of the St Mary’s and Bishop Eton Women’s Group - and many other community groups. Eileen Murray (Bishop Eton's resident poet) has written a wonderful poem to celebrate Susan's life. Click here to read it.
