We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other. We are currently in the Season of Creation which is held each year to celebrate and pray for justice on all aspects of creation. 

Join us for a guided LiveSimply 'Walk in the Woods' on 23 September 2.00pm-3.00pm. Our guide, Brenda Cameron of Childwall Woods and Fields, will lead us round this wonderful local nature reserve and we will reflect on the beauty and wonder of creation. We will meet  just before 2.00pm at the Lodge / main gate on Childwall  Abbey Road (just down from the Triangle).

Many thanks for all those who helped to raise money for WaterAid by participating in the raffle for Fr Michael’s painting. The winning raindrop was E5 meaning the painting was won by Alex M from St Mary’s.

We raised £255 for WaterAid.

Taking part in the plant and seed swap after the Masses at St Mary’s this weekend.

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.

The Season of Creation - which runs from 1 September to 4 October - is when the Christian family unites for a worldwide celebration of prayer and action to protect our common home.

This weekend we are continuing our financial support for WaterAid. Please take part in the raffle after Mass this weekend for Fr Michael’s painting of the lake in Calderstones Park at £1 per raindrop.

On Sunday 10 September, at St Mary’s, you can enjoy the shared fruits of Creation, as our green-fingered gardeners share the bounty of their labours
with a cuttings and seeds swap.

On Saturday 23 September, there will be a LiveSimply Walk in the Woods kindly guided for us by Brenda Cameron of Childwall Woods and Fields. More details to follow.

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the `Gift of Water` evening on Tuesday last, which was a great success. We learnt from WaterAid how we can reduce our water usage; and of the ways in which it provides clean water, sanitation and hygiene to the people of the global south.

If you were unable to attend please visit www.wateraid.org.uk for further information and donations. On the evening, we commenced our ‘waterdrop’ raffle for Fr Michael’s painting of the lake in Calderstones Park.

We will be selling waterdrops (£1 each) after Masses in St Mary’s this weekend, and after Masses in Bishop Eton next weekend. All funds raised on the evening and from the painting are going to WaterAid.

Around 771 million people around the world live life without the water we take for granted. Join us at 7.15pm on Tuesday 22 August in the Fisher More Hall for our Gift of Water Evening, which will include a presentation from the charity WaterAid, and a raffle to win a painting by Fr. Michael of the lake in Calderstones Park

Our focus in August is on the gift of water. We are looking for ways to use water responsibly and sustainably and to  show solidarity and support for those who do not have a water supply they can rely on. About twenty parishioners enjoyed a most enlightening and entertaining visit to the Recycling Discovery Centre and we hope to share more information and photos from it soon. One of the most shocking facts we learned was that only 20% of recyclable materials are actually recycled in Liverpool. Thank you to everyone who has joined in with our efforts to reduce plastic pollution over the past month. Please continue to refuse single use plastics wherever you can, as well as recycling both hard and soft plastics appropriately. Every single small step (including every item recycled) helps protect Creation. In August, our focus will move towards Water. Please put Tuesday, August 22 on your calendar now.   We are hoping to host a fun and informative evening based around the theme of Water. More details to follow.

Do you know that soft plastics can now be recycled at nine major UK supermarket chains? Aldi, Co-op, Iceland, Lidl, M&S, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose all now collect them, so it is very easy to do. Common household items that can be recycled include crisp packets, food pouches, fruit and vegetable bags, salad bags, biscuit and cake wrappers. Please make the decision to help fight against plastic pollution, which has such an impact on both land and sea, by always returning as much soft plastic as you can. As part of Plastic Free July the Bishop Eton and St Mary’s LiveSimply team has booked a slot for any interested parishioner to visit the Gillmoss recycling Discovery Centre between 10.00am and 11.30am on Tuesday 25 July. We will learn about the journey our recycling takes after we close the lid of the blue bin, what items we can and can’t recycle and, critically, how every household can do more. We will also see the City’s recycling machines in action. Last week, we celebrated Sea Sunday, this is a day for people to come together to pray for seafarers and fishers and thank them for the vital role they play in all of our lives.  To find out more about Sea Sunday visit https://www.stellamaris.org.uk/SeaSunday

Pope Francis was keen to point out, it is also a day in which to highlight the importance of caring for the sea and its ecosystem. Speaking after the Angelus prayer, the Pope said he is praying for seafarers, and he exhorted everyone to take care of the oceans and of the seas. “Take care of the health of the sea: no plastic in the sea!” he said. So, we again remind each other to aim to reduce the amount of plastics we use and buy.
