LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 7.7.24

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other

Plastic can take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade.
Littered and landfilled plastic breaks down into microplastics contaminating our food, our air and our water. Are we poisoning the planet or helping save it? How many single use items can we avoid this PLASTIC FREE JULY? coffee cups, water bottles, meat/fruit/ vegetables wrapped in plastic, carrier bags etc?

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 16.6.24

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.  Refugee week this year from 17-23 June, focuses on ‘Our Home’, a place where we feel loved, safe and cherished. We pray for millions of our brothers and sisters across the world, forced out of their country, desperate to find a new place to call home.

Together, this Refugee Week let’s practice our solidarity and make ‘Our Home’ a more welcoming, safe and sustainable place for all  To learn more visit https://refugeeweek.org.uk/theme-2024-ourhome/

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 9.6.24

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other

The Great Big Green Week, which runs from 8-16 June, is the UK’s biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature.

Across the country swaps, as a power for good, will be celebrated – from clothes or book swaps, to vegetable and skill swaps in allotments and knowledge swaps on discussion panels or wildlife reserves.

Let’s challenge ourselves to make at least one climate friendly swap during this week. Maybe walk or cycle to work or school one day instead of using the car?

Maybe swapping screen time for more time spent in nature?

Taking a quick shower instead of a bath?

Be inventive and enjoy helping to preserve God’s beautiful world.

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 2ND JUNE 2024

 Saturday 8 June.

On Saturday 8 June Bishop Eton and St. Mary’s will be celebrating achieving the LiveSimply Award from CAFOD.  This journey began in September 2022 and we now have a flourishing LiveSimply movement across the two parishes.  Our celebration will begin at 2.00pm in the Monastery garden here at Bishop Eton with a short reflection.  We will then walk together (or drive, if required) over to Woolton for a second reflection followed by a simple shared picnic in the grounds of St. Mary’s.  All parishioners are invited to join us; you will be most welcome

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 28TH APRIL 2024

Save the date: 2.00pm Saturday 8 June.

Our two parishes will celebrate achieving the CAFOD LiveSimply Award on the afternoon of Saturday 8 June.

We will meet in the peaceful grounds at Bishop Eton and, after reflection, will walk together - or travel by other means, as appropriate – to Woolton, where we will continue our celebration with a further short reflection and share a simple picnic in St Mary’s beautiful gardens.

LIVESIMPLY IN BISHOP ETON AND ST MARY’S

With the blooming of Spring we thank God for all our blessings and recommit ourselves - as LiveSimply parishes - to pray, hope and work for the 'resurrection' of our earth and all the people with whom we share it. Later this month people around the world will celebrate Earth Day 2024 (on 22 April). A main theme this year is to call for a strong UN Treaty on plastic pollution and demand an end to fast fashion. In response, last month our parishes took part in the Big Plastic Count and later this month (on 27 April) we will hold our fourth Nearly New Fashion Show, finding new homes for pre-loved items of clothing.

The latest meeting of our LiveSimply team will be held at St Mary's presbytery at 7.00pm on Tuesday 16 April; every parishioner is welcome to join us.

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 17.3.24

Keep Britain Tidy are holding the Great British Spring Clean from 15-31 March.

You can pledge to pick up a bag of litter as a simple action to make a visible difference to our local environment.

Plastic Counting: Our counting of plastic waste also provides evidence needed to push for proper action on plastic which is a major contributor of rubbish in our communities. Please return any tally sheets for the Big Plastic Count to the back of church on or before 24 March or email them to Lisa on .

LIVESIMPLY MESSAGE 3.3.24

We aim to live more simply, sustainably and in solidarity with each other.

As we enter March we will start to see more signs of Spring as our gardens and parks start to burst forth with new life. Sunday 3 March is World Wildlife Day and we give thanks to God for the great gifts of our fauna and flora. One of the major threats to our natural world is the increase in plastic pollution. Nearly 100 billion pieces of plastic packaging are thrown away by UK households every year and just 12% is recycled. One way to help and influence the debate on plastic use and recycling is to take part in the Big Plastic Count (11-17 March). There will be tally sheets at the back of Church on 9/10 March with instructions on how to take part or more information can be found at thebigplasticcount.com.
