ICON OF THE 

VIRGIN OF TENDERNESS

This icon was written by a parishioner. It was gifted to the Parish in June 2021 as a focus for prayer, remembrance and thanksgiving, in memory of all those affected by the coronavirus pandemic of 2020-21.

It is is a copy of a famous Moscow icon from the 15th century and is traditionally painted using egg tempera and gold leaf on a wood panel.

The Russian inscription on the Virgin's gown is fom St Luke's account of the Annunciation: 'And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; let it be unto me according to thy word. And with that the angel left her.' (Luke 1 :38)

The Icon has been placed in the lady Chapel in front of the image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help as can be seen on the photograph below.
