THE FOOT OF THE CROSS: Remembering The Queen | Episode 6

The latest At The Foot of the Cross podcast looks at the period of mourning after the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We also have a message from Bishop Paul McAleenan for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees. September is the 'Season of Creation' so we're joined by Bishop John Arnold to talk about our environmental work and, in particular, the imminent re-release of the Bishops' teaching document Call of Creation.  Our regular guest, General Secretary, Canon Christopher Thomas, offers his personal reflections on Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and talks to us about the continental phase of the synodal process and looks forward to the jubilee year of 2025.

Remembering The Queen | Episode 6

A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE QUEEN FROM OUR RESIDENT POET

ETERNAL THANKS

Still cocooned by warmth of beatific smile

From diminutive regal figure,

As Duties of State were performed -

When hand held hand as Power and Authority transferred -

The unexpected, sombre news

Of monumental importance,

Shattered our already fragile world.

Hearts raced, words were imprisoned in constricted throats,

Tears trickled from reddening eyes.

"The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral."

A simple epitaph for our loving, unique Monarch.

For the following tortuous, funereal days,

We mourned the passing of Our Queen

With the ceremony and dignity

To which she had devoted her life.

The forbearance and love, shown firstly by her family

And reflected in the demeanour of the mourning, countless multitudes,

Were part of the manifestation of all the ideals

To which The Queen steadfastly devoted her whole life.

Perhaps, on that indelible afternoon,

At peace in cherished home and Land,

She heard the call, which no one can escape.

Her final regal task graciously completed,

Time, now, to move from Royal Palace

To welcoming Heavenly Realm,

And blissful reunion with The Special One

And everyone she held dear - animals included!

Protocol free. No more Red Boxes!

We shall miss you, but hold you ever close

In our memories, which will be lovingly recounted,

By those you served so faithfully,

To generations still unborn.

CATHOLIC LISTENERS

Catholiclisteners, is a new confidential helpline launched in 2022 during Holy Week. The service, which is part of the Diocese of Westminster, has been set up for those who are returning to the faith as well as to support those who need someone to talk to. The helpline is all about listening to others, listening to those who might have become isolated due to the pandemic. This service is based on the Landings ethos of compassionate listening. Although not a counselling service, there is a professional team trained in signposting callers to other services and agencies.

For further information please email   or call us on 0800 448 0704
