We may not be able to produce our regular BE Alive magazine because of Lockdown, but our resident poet is still taking inspiration from the world around her and has sent in a poem, which we publish below:

            There is a Time…………..

We live in an unpredictable world.

Despite the fonts of knowledge,

Accumulated across the centuries,

We are not Gods.

For, probably, a few years,

There have been all manner of experts

Busily involved in the mountainous task

Of paying our respects and homage

To those who made VE Day a reality.

For over five years of warfare,

So many fought against the powers

Who sought world domination.

The lives of countless numbers

Were devastated by the loss

Of possessions and homes

But, most of all, loved ones.

There are episodes in history which shine

Through the darkness of inhumanity

And against all odds,

End in hope for the future.

What joy was felt; what tales of celebration resounded,

As peace was finally declared!

For that momentous VE Day, seventy-five years ago,

In our naivety, we hoped to relive

The sense of freedom, the heartfelt rejoicing

And give thanks to the memory

Of all who made life worth living again.

How ironic that three quarters of a century later,

rising from the ashes,

The indomitable spirits

Of service, determination The peace so valiantly won,

Has been devastated by an unseen enemy.

Like the phoenix after that love

Fight on resolutely.

Seventy-five years ago we rejoiced unreservedly.

In times to come, not too distant we hope,

God willing, we shall do so again.
