A MESSAGE FROM FRIENDS OF THE HOLYLAND
FHL have forwarded a joint statement from the Greek Orthodox Patriarchtate and the Latin Patriarchtate of Jerusalem. You can read it by clicking here.
They are also calling for "A CALL TO PRAYER AND PUBLIC WITNESS FOR PEACE IN THE HOLY LAND"
We are witnessing the devastating escalation of violence in Gaza and the West Bank with Israel’s latest decision to mount a new offensive in Gaza City threatening hundreds of thousands with further forced displacement. The cries of Palestinian church leaders for peace and solidarity have echoed across the global Church, urging us to respond with clarity, compassion, and conviction.
As Christian agencies rooted in faith and justice, we believe the gravity of this moment demands a visible, united Christian witness—one that speaks to our shared commitment to peace, reconciliation, and the dignity of all people.
In response we are calling on churches across Britain to pray for peace on Sunday 21st September, coinciding with UN World Peace Day and the global call to prayer from the World Council of Churches.
Prayer could include holding a minute’s silence; or the prayer from Archbishop Hosam of Jerusalem; or joining the #FastforGaza action. Your prayers might focus on one or more of the issues below:
- An immediate ceasefire in Gaza
- Unfettered access to humanitarian relief.
- An end to violence in Israel and Palestine.
- The release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees.
A meaningful peace process
To support these actions, we are working with Churches Together in Britain and Ireland and Churches Together England to create an accessible online hub of resources for prayer and action.

CAFOD: RESPONSE IN GAZA.
Your donations to Gaza since the start of the conflict have been a vital lifeline. Right now, CAFOD's partner, Caritas Jerusalem, is delivering essential medical treatment to displaced people and providing medicines to treat chronic illnesses. Despite the restrictions on aid coming into Gaza, CAFOD's local partners are working tirelessly to help people. And with your ongoing support, they will do all in their power to keep doing so.
You can find out more about how you can make a difference in Gaza at https://cafod.org.uk/
ASYLUM LINK COLLECTION THANK-YOU
Thank you to all who donated clothes and bikes to Asylun Link. If you have any further donations please contact the centre directly. Many thanks to Tara for organising the collection.
Ayslum link posted the following thank you message on Facebook
A bike isn’t just a bike. It’s independence, a healthier lifestyle, and a way to reconnect with the world around you. For many refugees and asylum seekers, it’s a lifeline—making it possible to get to English classes, medical appointments, job interviews, or simply to explore a new city with dignity and freedom.
Thank you so much Our Lady of the Annunciation Bishop Eton for your generosity with these clothes and bike donations ![]()

AFTERNOON TEA - A POEM FROM OUR RESIDENT POET
AFTERNOON TEA
It was one of those memorable afternoons
You store away in secret confines,
To be enjoyed time and time again
As you continue Life’s Journey.
For hours, words flowed eloquently
Remembering loved ones,
Whose friendships coloured our lives.
Smiles and laughter filled the elegant room
Overlooking the delightful garden.
Certaln idiosyncratic characters and events were discussed
Whilst the deliciously tantalising food –
All homemade, of course –
Fuelled memories of our past,
Which will, for us, stay evergreen.
When Summer’s sun fails to appear,
Or the chilling fingers of Winter, clutch,
The memory of that lovely June day
Will warm the heart –
Far more than the apocryphal Heat Pump!
