A MESSAGE FROM DEACON GREG, ELISABETH AND JOHANNA:
We would like to thank you all for your cards, messages, gifts, prayers, wishes and so much generous help. We are grateful to each one of you. And although it hasn't been possible to arrange to meet everyone in person to say goodbye and thank you in person, you are in our hearts and there we are united with you all in the love of God.
We have had the privilege to meet so many people building up a wonderful parish community with love, dedication, mutual encouragement, and respect. Thank you that we could be part of this for nine years.
We will certainly come back to visit Liverpool and we'll meet again.
ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI:
The Season of Creation culminates in the feast of St Francis of Assisi on 4 October. St Francis is the patron of all God’s creatures and the environment. One of the issues that demands our urgent attention is how we treat animals. The current pandemic is a wake-up call. God did not give us animals to do with as we like. He entrusted them to us – we are their custodians. Many animals suffer appalling cruelty because of our demand for food and sport. Christians have a duty of care to God’s creatures.
We can’t keep turning a blind eye!
A PRAYER FOR ANIMALS:
Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals,
especially for animals who are suffering;
for animals that are overworked, underfed and cruelly treated;
for all wistful creatures in captivity that beat their wings against bars;
for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry;
for all that must be put death.
We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity,
and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion
and gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals,
and so to share the blessings of the merciful.
STATEMENT FROM THE REDEMPTORIST PROVINCIAL COUNCIL:
“Many of you will be aware of the distressing court case in Liverpool involving one of our priests who was a member of the Bishop Eton Community during the late 1980s and early 1990s.The Redemptorists have learned that, after careful consideration, the jury have found him guilty on three of the five charges. We deeply appreciate how emotional this must be for everyone involved.
As a Congregation, we will continue to co-operate with the process and comply with our safeguarding responsibilities, as we reflect on the findings of the court and the impact on all those involved.
It is not appropriate for us to comment further while the sentence of the court is awaited.”
