WORLD YOUTH SUNDAY

Next Sunday, 26 November is World Youth Sunday, there will be a retiring collection for Animate Youth at all Masses

FROM FR ANDREW:

Fr Tim’s well-deserved break gives me the opportunity as the Rector at Bishop Eton Monastery to give a huge word of thanks to all the members of our two parishes for the generous support that you give to the Redemptorist Community. Together we are able to support each other in our shared mission simply because you support us in so many ways. Our office staff and reception volunteers, sacristans and altar servers, deacon and funeral ministers, bereavement counsellors, catechists for sacramental preparation, musicians, readers, eucharistic ministers, SVP members, Redemptorist Associates and so many more who help in more hidden ways. Our community of ten elderly priests supports you with our prayers and our Masses for your intentions, but it is your generosity that feeds us and keeps us warm, both physically and spiritually. We hope that our gratitude is evident in the service we are still able to offer.

EVANGELII GAUDIUM SUNDAY

EVANGELII GAUDIUM SUNDAY (formerly known as Home Mission Sunday) takes place on the 3rd Sunday of September.

Evangelii Gaudium, Latin for “Joy of the Gospel”, calls us to be joyous in proclaiming our faith. It supports the work of the Mission Directorate on behalf of the Bishops’ Conference.

A key focus of upcoming work is responding to Pope Francis’ calling of a Jubilee Year in 2025, themed "Pilgrims of Hope". The Church is to prepare for the Jubilee by reflecting on the four Constitutions of the Second Vatican Council in 2023; and deepening our prayer life, with a special focus on the Lord’s Prayer, in 2024. A range of resources are being prepared for the Year of Prayer in 2024, including a course on the Lord’s Prayer from small groups for Lent, and encouragement to try different ways of praying from the tradition of the Church. The Mission Directorate will be supporting the Jubilee co-ordinator appointed by each diocese.

Please support the Mission Directorate through prayer and giving to the second collection. Every contribution, big or small, goes directly to support this important work to bring the joy of the Gospel to all.
