Fr Barrie’s 80th. We congratulate Fr Barrie who reaches this milestone on the 18th of this month. He too will be away for a week from next Saturday, enjoying some holiday with his sister. His recovery from so much serious illness has been quite remarkable and we remain immensely grateful for all he is able to contribute to the life of both our parishes. For the record, Fr Brian Russell will be 77 on the 24th.

RELIGIOUS PROFESSION:

We congratulate Bros Michael Taylor and Royston Price, who will take their First Vows as Redemptorists tomorrow, 15 August, at the noon Mass. We will celebrate the Feast of the Assumption again and all are welcome. There will be an informal reception in the Fisher-More Hall afterwards.

Fr Jim Casey has had a difficult week, but he is stable and we hope will eventually make a full recovery. Please keep him in your prayers.

Fr James Casey C.Ss.R.: Fr Jim has to undergo a serious operation at the Royal tomorrow and will appreciate your prayers for him along with all those who are ill in our parishes at this time.

Redemptorist General Chapter. Fr Andrew Burns is the elected representative of our Province for a preliminary meeting in Poland and flies there today. He will be away until the weekend after next.

BISHOP ETON, THURSDAY 24 SEPTEMBER 2015 at NOON

HOMILY BY FR. TIM BUCKLEY C.SS.R

I have not had far to look for the connections which so fascinate me when I came to prepare these few words to honour the memory of Fr Jim Corrigan as we lovingly entrust him to the Lord today. Just three weeks ago to this very day, Fr Andrew, Fr Barrie and I went to Christopher Grange, complete with a cake, to celebrate Fr Jim’s 88th Birthday. I don’t think we were responsible, but that night he was in the Royal Liverpool Hospital, only to be discharged at lunchtime the following day. Sadly these breathless turns were becoming a pattern and a few days later he landed in Whiston Hospital. They kept him in for a few days, and it seemed that both he and the Lord had decided that enough was enough, so on cue on the night of the 62nd anniversary of his ordination he went peacefully to the Lord: it was the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows and today is the Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham. He would appreciate the connections: he had a great devotion to our Blessed Lady.

FR JAMES CORRIGAN, CSsR.

Fr Jim Corrigan died at Christopher Grange on Tuesday evening (15th September 2015), the anniversary of his ordination. In spite of all his sufferings in recent years he remained the most gracious of men, always interested in what was going on and always rejoicing when he heard good news about people and their endeavours.

Not only did he do his junior seminary training here, but he spent many of his 62 years of priesthood at Bishop Eton. It will be wonderful if many of you can join us on Thursday. May he rest in peace.

FR RICHARD ON WALKING THE CAMINO

From Fr. Richard : I shall be in Spain making a 100 mile pilgrimage walk to Santiago de Compostela to give thanks to God for our Redemptorist Vocations, and to pray for vocations for the future. Please join us in prayer for this intention, 30 August—7 September. If you check out the website, www.redemptorists.co.uk , you can follow us each day.

Prayer for Redemptorist Vocations

Father,

we thank you for the blessings you have given us

in Christ our Redeemer.

Let your Spirit overshadow your people,

making your gentle invitation heard in many hearts.

Lord of the Harvest,

bless the Redemptorist family

throughout the world with many vocations,

so that those in greatest need

will experience the Good News of Redemption.

May your love grow among us

and your kingdom come,

through Christ our Lord.

AMEN
