GREATER LOVE - A REMEMBRANCE POEM FROM OUR PARISH POET
GREATER LOVE

The grandeur of Autumn fades
Into sombre, darkening days
And past memories of what once was.
In our rapidly changing world,
We are exhorted to look to the future,
So the Past is neglected and inconsequential.
Promises made, in good faith,
Disappear under the duvet
Of more important issues.
Yet, there remains one thread,
Which cannot be cut.
Remembrance.
This year, when the last firework explodes,
When the ricocheting echoes cease,
When the pungent clouds are dispersed,
Give thanks to the many,
Who, against unknown odds,
Lived and died for universal freedom
And, most of all, understanding and Peace.
