150Adventweek1THE ADVENT SEASON:

Please note that this year we have a separate brochure, itemising all the special events of this holy season. I encourage you to take one and plan your Advent accordingly. Click here for an electronic copy.

Cribs in the home:

I have spoken before about the great tradition of the crib in the home as well as in the church. It would be wonderful if every home in the parish has a crib this Christmas.

If you don’t have one and especially if there are children in the home, make one with them.

synod 2020 logoSYNOD Questionnaires:

It will be helpful if we can have all the returns in by next weekend please.   ( A reminder this is a questionnaire for Catholics on the fringe)

You can download an electronic copy of the questionnaire by clicking here.

The Mèdaille Trust:

We were asked if it is possible to have a special appeal for this charity.

However, Bro Francis (SFX) works closely with the Trust and has suggested that in both our parishes we encourage you to take the recent magazine at the back of the church. This explains the work of the Trust in supporting the victims of modern slavery.

If you wish to make a contribution, details on how to do so can be found in the magazine.

To learn more about the Mèdaille Trust visit their website https://www.medaille-trust.org.uk/

Reverence for the Eucharist:

Sadly in recent times, hosts have been found on the floor of both our churches. Therefore I beg all of you when receiving Communion to follow the guidance that we take a step to the side and consume the host in the presence of the minister.

Ministers, please be vigilant and if you see anything suspicious, do not hesitate to respond.

First Reconciliation:

Please pray for our children and their families, who are celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time this Sunday afternoon.

December's BE Alive

The December edition of BE Alive is available this weekend. Click here for an electronic copy

We are looking for some more help, especially over the weekends, to support the elderly confrères, whose disabilities are becoming more pronounced. Ideally, we are looking for people with a nursing background. Thanks to those who have responded and if anyone else is interested, please let us know this week, preferably in writing, and we can get together and discuss how to further the process.

synod 2020 logoSYNOD 2020

A reminder we are now considering the second focus that emerged from the consultation, namely “Sharing the mission of Jesus”. Once again we invite all who have something to contribute to place their thoughts and ideas in the Synod Box near the entrance to the Lady Chapel and our reps will process these.

The following video has some reflections on the theme of Sharing the Mission of Jesus

The questions we are asked to reflect on are

    • How do we more effectively evangelise and lead people to a deeper relationship with Jesus?
    • How do we show the compassionate love of Jesus in our work for justice, peace, and the integrity of creation, in our acts of charity and our works of mercy?
    • How can the parish rise to the challenge of sharing the mission of Jesus?
    • How can we equip people to be the presence of Jesus at work, at home, and in the street?

Marriage Matters Reflections for this week

A Reflection from Marriage Matters (www.twoinoneflesh.org.uk) for this Sunday

First Sunday of Advent (Isaiah 2:1-5   Romans 13:11-14:   Matthew 24:37-44)

Walk in the light of the Lord

God’s Word is clear – we can only be certain of each current moment in our day-to-day lives. To live as couples in the ‘present moment’ more often, we need to apply ourselves to today’s call from Jesus to “stay awake”. Also St Paul tells us, “the time has come: you must wake up now”, because now is all we have.

"Volunteering gives me opportunities that I wouldn’t have had." Volunteering is a great way to boost your skills, improve your CV, meet new people and give back to your community.

There are currently volunteering opportunities in the Nugent Charity Shop on Allerton Road, Liverpool.

It is one of the most popular charity shops in the area, with a lot of regular customers and the team have sold over 40,000 items so far this year and raised over £90,000 for Nugent’s community services.

Volunteers in the Charity Shop get involved in all aspects, from sorting stock to taking payments, but most of all they are the face of Nugent for all of their regular customers.

Give Colin a call now on 0151 261 2041 to find out how you could volunteer with Nugent, or email, . "It's great fun too, seeing new and old faces and having a chance to chat." Find out more at wearenugent.org
