FROM FR TIM

A WEEK AWAY

I am leaving you in the gentle care of Fr Andrew and the rest of the community for the coming week.

Next Sunday Andrew and I have to travel to Perth for a meeting with the North European Redemptorist Provinces as we plan for the future. We return on Tuesday and then Andrew will be away for virtually the rest of the month.

I hope the holiday season is going well for you all and that we all find time to recharge the batteries before the autumn.

Project Zimbabwe:

You’ve done it! All the tiles have been sold. Work will start this month on the project.

Thank you all for your marvellous support.

SAFEGUARDING:

A new safeguarding team is now in place and learning the ropes.

Please help them by responding quickly to requests to fill in forms and bring in ID for verification.

If you are hoping to start a new volunteer role in September eg Toddler Group, J&P Group, music groups (also see notice regarding Little Church) etc please contact the Safeguarding Team on the email above to start the process as soon as possible. Because of changes and an overhaul of the process it can take a few months to process to be completed. You may not start in your role until we have been notified by the Archdiocese that you have a clear DBS. Thank you for your cooperation and patience. If you have any concerns or just want advise please email the dedicated email address above or contact the Safeguarding Office at the Archdiocese.

Little Church and Children’s Liturgy:

It is a celebration of the Liturgy of the Word for children aged 3-11 years.

Parents may attend for the first 2/3 sessions to help their children settle into the group.

Any parent wishing to attend the group regularly, apart from if they are attending solely to assist their child who has a disability, must become a leader or a designated helper and apply for DBS clearance in accordance with the Archdiocesan Safeguarding Procedures.

These procedures have been set by the Archdiocese for the protection and safety of the children.

Bro. James - Sponsored Cycle for the Salvation Army

On Sunday Aug. 4th, Bro. James (SFX) is taking part in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 mile Sportive cycling event, along with 1,000s of fellow cyclists, a few hours before the world's top professional riders race on a the same roads. The route is based on the 2012 Olympic Road Race route and uses closed roads. Bro. James will be riding as part of a Salvation Army team (#TeamSally). He is raising money for their mission in Rhyl, N. Wales, which is led by a musician friend of his, Major Chris Davidson. He will be looking to complete the ride in about 6hrs30, which for an amateur rider of his "profile" would be good going. Any donations would be very gratefully received. God bless. 🙏😇🚴

Here's the link for donating: http://www.justgiving.com/James-Hayes21?utm_id=26 If anyone would prefer to donate in cash they can drop an envelope off at the Monastery, labelled “Bro. James - Sponsored Cycle”.

"The Salvation Army provide unconditional friendship, support and very practical help to people in crisis and need and work with children, older people, homeless people, all adult victims of modern slavery and those dealing with drug and/or alcohol addiction."

SFX College Volunteers

A couple of years ago, SFX College invited volunteer parishoners to give a minimum of one hour a week in one-to-one literacy and/or numeracy support to some of the school’s more needy pupils, working in conjunction with the school’s SEND dept. The programme has been a great success and was commented on most positively during the most recent OFSTED inspection.

There were 8 volunteers coming in to school last term.

SFX would like to renew its invitation and expand the group to help respond to the needs of their incoming Yr. 7s. If you would like to get involved or would like more information before deciding if it’s for you, contact Bro. James (College Chaplain) at This email address is being protected from spambots. SYNOD 2020

synod 2020 logoThe collated parish SYNOD responses have been submitted to the Archdiocese. Thank you to all those who submitted responses.

Hope University is analysing all the data for the SYNOD working party.  The working party comprises  the SYNOD Moderators (Fr Philip Inch, Fr Matthew Nunes), Mrs Maureen Knight, (Pastoral Formation) Mrs Debbie Reynolds (SFX pastoral worker), Sr Rachel Duffy FCJ, (religious) Miss Kate Wilkinson (school chaplain), Fr Mark Beattie, Fr Stephen Pritchard and Fr Dominic Curran (Parish Priests).

The working party will meet from the 15th-17th August under the guidance of Fr Eamonn from the Limerick Diocese. Fr Peter McGrail will present the data from the listening process and after a period of discernment, it is hoped themes will emerge which will indicate the way forward.

The SYNOD members will be presented with the these at the September SYNOD 2020 gatherings, and presented to the Archdiocese in October on ‘SYNOD Sunday’.  There will then be a further listening process.

It is asked that we pray for the SYNOD journey and especially for the meeting of the working party that takes places between the 15th to 17th August.

Marriage Matters Reflections for this week

A Reflection from Marriage Matters (www.twoinoneflesh.org.uk) for this Sunday

A Reflection from Marriage Matters (www.twoinoneflesh.org.uk) for this Sunday

Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Ecclesiastes 1:2; 2: 21-23; Col 3: 1-5, 9-11; Luke 12: 13-21)

To love as God loves

It’s easy to be drawn into the world’s plan for material success and lose sight of why we married each other.  Slightly changing the words of the Gospel we might read, ‘Fool, who will benefit from this hoard when your married love has died?’ Let us work hard at making us rich in love for each other and with God.
