FROM FR TIM
Thank you to those who were able to join us to celebrate our Founder’s Feast Day last Wednesday. It was a special joy to have Bishop Ralph leading the celebration. And our thanks to Fr Andrew, who not only preached but who made it possible for Fr Barrie O’Toole to travel from Ripon and concelebrate.
Thank you also to all the musicians and singers who responded to the invitation to support the family of Daniel Gee-Jamieson at the funeral last Tuesday. In the event, we had a small orchestra and choir. Family and friends were all touched and grateful and indeed so was I.
Comings and Goings: Fr Charles has returned from Granada and reports that the international meeting was a huge success. It was good that Patrick McKean from Bishop Eton and Jen Monkhouse from St Mary’s were able to represent our respective parishes. Charles leaves for some holiday next Friday and will return on August 26. I plan to get away this Tuesday and will return before Fr Andrew leaves for Ireland in time to join Marriage Encounter for the papal visit.
Since Hayley Metcalfe (Bishop Eton) and Ann O’Neill (St Mary’s) are also on leave at present, it will be good if you can leave anything which does not require immediate attention until we are all back later in the month. Kris Reeds and Gill Bickerstaff will keep things ticking over in the offices.
There will be no Coffee Morning today.
SVP monthly collection will take place after all Masses this weekend. Thank you for your generosity.
Project Zimbabwe: Remaining tickets on sale after Mass today for the Cheese and Wine evening in the Fisher-More Hall on Friday 10 August at 7.30pm.
The evening includes a sale of about 40 of Fr Michael’s paintings. Prices range from £15—£90.
All proceeds go to Project Zimbabwe.
You can pay by cash or cheque, or can reserve a painting to take at a later time.
ALSO... Bishop Eton school caps that you no longer need please donate to Project Zimbabwe by handing them in at the Monastery reception. Thank you.
RYM—Are you 18-40? Why not join us for Mass and a drink? We're hoping to do this once a month, beginning this weekend (Sunday 5th August). We'll be going to 6.00pm Mass at Bishop Eton, followed by drinks at the Childwall Abbey. So come along and make some new Catholic friends from the parishes!
Wednesday Lunch will take place on 8 August at 12.30pm in the Fisher-More Hall. All welcome.
DBS/Safeguarding: Kris will be in the office Monday—Wednesday 9.00am—12.00pm this week for anyone who needs to bring in DBS forms eg new volunteers for Little Church, Parent and Toddler Group, J&P, WYA etc. Please see Kris as soon as possible. Adoremus National Eucharistic Pilgrimage & Congress
Eucharist is… sacrifice.
Remembering Jesus’ death cannot be done simply by thinking about it. If we are to remember as we are called to remember, then we need to live as Jesus lived, think as he thought and act as he acted. We celebrate the memory of Jesus in the Eucharistic sacrifice by offering our own lives together with Jesus for the life of the world.
Dovedale Baptist Church will be closing in September. More details to follow but there will be a special service on Sunday 16 September at 3.30pm to celebrate and give thanks for the work of the church over the 112 years since it was founded.
Please check out all the posters in the porch for extra events, courses and information. Also, check out the parish website for many more links.

Upcoming Walking Group
Dementia friendly afternoon tea and sing along
A dementia-friendly afternoon tea and sing along takes place at St. Mary's on the last Friday of every month.
At the Whitechapel Centre, homeless people are able to take a shower and wash their clothes. However, a lot of the time their underwear, socks and trainers have to be thrown away. The Whitechapel Centre would be very grateful for any donations of men's and women's underwear (smaller sizes), socks and trainers especially size 5/6 women or size 9 men).
Also although we all enjoy the sunshine it can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion and sun stroke for people who are rough sleeping. The Whitechapel centre would welcome donations of bottled water and sun cream for us to distribute to their clients. Thank you!
Pope Francis: Reflections on The Joy of Love (Amoris Laetitia)
Each week we will be providing an excerpt on the Pope's letter for you to read and reflect on. The reflections have been made available by the Archdiocese’s Adult Faith Formation department.
“True love values the other person’s achievements. It does not see him or her as a threat. It frees us from the sour taste of envy. It recognizes that everyone has different gifts and a unique path in life. So it strives to discover its own road to happiness while allowing others to find theirs”
(Amoris Laetitia 95).
It is always difficult not to compare ourselves to other people, but that inevitably is not fulfilling and does not bring us happiness. This week, reflect upon the unique path that you have been on so far, and entrust yourself to God in confidence. Plan something fun with your family for next weekend so that you can appreciate your families particular gifts and uniqueness.

Perfumed Rosary Beads
St John Vianney’s Parish Sister, Sister Mary, who is now housebound, makes ‘real’ Rosary beads from real rose petals thus producing perfumed beads. She buys the accessories from overseas and then takes a couple of months preparing the crushed rose petals, until ready for beading. Sister then hand assembles the beads, the chains and crucifix complete with their presentation box, they are so blessed! Sister produces these to help raise much needed funds for those in Bangladesh who have had their villages and churches destroyed by floods. A set costs £10 and are available by ringing the Parish Office of St John Vianney, Halewood.
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS TRAINING
