Due to unforeseen circumstances, Father Charles Corrigan C.Ss.R., the Rector at Bishop Eton has been asked by Father Provincial and his Council to move "on loan" to St. Mary's, Clapham as acting Rector and Parish Priest for the next 6 months, beginning from September. Father Charles will still be Rector at Bishop Eton but Father Desmond will be acting superior of the community in Father Charles' absence.
With Bishop Ralph's departure to Gibraltar, this will mean that from September there will be only three active priests at Bishop Eton, Father Desmond, Father Jimmy Smale C.Ss.R. and Father Tim Buckley C.Ss.R. Father Jimmy and Father Tim are often away from Liverpool engaged in parish missions, retreats and appeals. Therefore, with the diminishment in personnel Father Desmond believes that the following changes to the Mass schedule (which come into effect the first weekend in September 2010) are inevitable.
- Weekday Masses: There will no longer be a 7:30pm Mass. Massed will continue to be held at 7:00am and 12:00 noon.
- Novena : This will continue as usual on Wednesday at 7:30pm
- Sunday Masses:
- Saturday Vigil will move from 6:30pm to 6:00pm
- Sunday: There will no longer be a 6:00pm mass. Masses will continue to be held at 8:30am, 10:00am and 11:30am.
Father Desmond apologises for the suddenness of these decisions without consultation but the speed of events has taken the Redemptorist community by surprise.
The above schedule will have to be reviewed in the time ahead and it may be necessary to make further changes.
Father Desmond hopes that parishioners will understand the reasons for these changes and apologises for any inconvenience caused.
Bishop Eton community will miss Father Charles very much and assure him of prayers in his new role at St. Mary's, Clapham.
