HOW WILL THE CRISIS AFFECT FUNERALS?

Funerals will take place either at the cemetery or the crematorium, however, numbers kept to an absolute minimum.

We will be able privately to celebrate a Requiem Mass for the family if this is requested, but a memorial Mass with family and friends will have to wait until the restrictions are lifted.

The Archdiocese has produced a prayer resource for those who cannot attend funerals. Click here

I HAVE BOOKED A WEDDING - WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

The Church is closed, there will be no weddings until the crisis has lifted.

All those who have booked weddings have now been contacted.

WHAT ABOUT ANOINTING OF THE SICK

For those who are self-isolating phone support can be offered.

Otherwise we will be able to anoint those who are sick, but Holy Communion may be taken only to those who are in danger of death.

Fr Charles has summarised the recent comments of the Pope on Last Rites and Absolution. You can find this summary by clicking here

CAN I RECEIVE COMMUNION AT HOME?

Holy Communion may be taken only to those who are in danger of death. Ministers of Holy Communion will not be making their usual rounds.

WHAT ABOUT THE EASTER DUTY:

Fr Tim has been asked how we fulfil the Easter Duty this year. This is his response

The Easter Duty is to receive Holy Communion between Ash Wednesday and Trinity Sunday. Many of you have already done this.

Strictly speaking we are only required to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation if we are conscious of being completely at variance with Our Lord (traditionally called mortal sin). My own advice would be that you should regularly make good acts of contrition and make a Spiritual Communion.

A Spiritial Communion Prayer from St Alphonsus : My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire to possess you within my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as being already there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you.

I'm a Minister of Communion - can I still continue with my rounds ?

Ministers of communion ARE NOT to continue with their regular rounds.  It would be good to  keep in touch with those who are housebound and explain that everyone is called upon to make a spiritual communion while this crisis lasts.

The Achdiocese has produces a prayer resource that ministers may find useful to use during a phone call.  Click here to access it.
